Yesterday Bear Republic participated in the first of several REV Sustainability Workshops at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair. Speakers lead discussions and activities on the topics of: wastewater reduction and reuse, renewable energy sources, transportation technologies, carbon footprint reduction and developing a Sustainability Action Plan (SAP). A handful of like-minded, local food and beverage companies, were able to reflect on their own implemented technologies, practices, goals, and challenges with becoming more sustainable. The focus was on idea sharing, organizational changes, and education.
In the past few years, Bear Republic has implemented some cutting-edge sustainability technology including: water efficiency retrofits, onsite wastewater treatment with a Cambrian EcoVolt system, and solar panels. This workshop was an opportunity to reflect on the sustainability changes made this far and to draft ideas on the next set of goals in developing a 5-year sustainability plan.
The conference concluded with a tour of Bear Republic’s Cloverdale production facility, led by Master Brewer, Peter Kruger and Wastewater Technician, David Woychik. Current practices and areas for improvement were discussed over a pint of fresh beer.
